THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RIGHT NUTRITION PLAN:
The term nutrient density refers to the concentration of micronutrients (mainly vitamins and minerals, but the term micronutrients also encompasses phytochemicals, essential fatty acids and essential amino acids) per calorie of food. High nutrient density foods supply a wide range of vitamins and minerals (or alternatively, high levels of a specific, important vitamin or mineral) relative to the calories they contain, whereas low nutrient density foods supply lots of energy without much in the way of additional nutrition. Any dietary template can contain a mixture of high and low nutrient density foods, so it’s our overall eating pattern that matters most. Whether your goal is to lose weight, build muscle, or optimize your health, you have to have the right nutrition plan. Without it, even the best exercise program can’t get you the results you want. I will help you develop a calm and focused approach to food. And it will help you develop key eating habits so that you can make healthy eating choices easily and consistently.
Your nutrition plan will start with a detailed breakdown of your daily caloric (protein, carbohydrate, and dietary fat) needs. These numbers may not be flashy, but they will give us the data we need to ensure your nutrition plan is on point from the very start. We will continuously update your nutrition plan to ensure you are always on track. Carbohydrates and proteins each offer 4 calories per gram, and fat. The most energy-dense nutrient offers 9 calories per gram. While some fat diets may try to convince you otherwise, it is important to eat balanced amounts of each of these nutrients every day. To simplify things, the Food and Nutrition Board provides recommendations for the macronutrients based on percentage of calorie intake.
FOOD LOG ANALYSIS
What I have learned from my years of experience is that the most effective way to help you make lasting changes to how you eat is to have you keep a food log. Tracking your meals will breed awareness, give us vital insight, and is the perfect icebreaker for hard conversations about food. You can take photos, use an app, or simply write down what you eat on your computer, or even by hand. Whatever works best for you.
From there we will regularly review your food choices and portion sizes, talk through what you did right, and assign action items on how to improve your coming meals.
